Kobayashi Book

The World of Kunio Kobayashi

Photo: The World of Kunio Kobayashi Book. To comemorate his 60th birthday this year my master, the world famous Kunio Kobayashi decided to collect together a lot of his famous works and create a book. In true Kobayashi fashion, one thing lead to another and what started off as a small book soon became a massive project.

This book is a collection of not only his famous works but also trees that he has in some way a relationship with. It is the essence of Kobayashi's philosophy on Bonsai.

It contains not only just individual shots but also tokonoma display pictures taken in the many display area within the beautiful Shunkaen Bonsai Museum. It is split up into 7 sections. Five show the trees at various stages throughout the year, New Year, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. There is a section on his award winning works including four Prime Ministers Award winning trees and 15 Kokufu-sho prize winners. The final section shows many before, during and after pictures of his famous works and some not so well known trees as well.

There is English text to accompany many of the photographs, however the photographs speak for themselves. A truly outstanding book for a very reasonable price. It is Master Kobayashi's dream for all Bonsai enthusiasts to own a copy of this book so it is available for a very reasonable price.
